Disabled Golf Week 23/29 July

This summer will see a major step forward in opening up golf to many would be players who thought the game was beyond their reach.

England’s leading golf organisation for those with physical and mental health challenges is launching it’s first ever nation-wide week of activity aimed specifically at bringing new players to participate in golf.

Events will tee off on Monday 25 July at the prestigious Shire London club, with the Golf Trust Open and conclude on Friday 29 July with the DGA Charity Open at the Stoke Rochford, near Grantham in the Midlands.

Between these two events the DGA is organising “welcome to golf” taster events for those thinking about taking up the game at golf clubs across England in the form of friendly coaching on driving ranges and putting greens.

DGA Chair Stan Bembenek said “This year, with the playing of the 150th Open Championship, we aim to show that golf is a game which can be enjoyed by almost everyone, even those who think they can’t.

As an amputee who literally plays off one leg, and a respectable golf handicap of 24, I want to share how much fun and enjoyment playing golf can be, whether with the DGA, a club or simply a group of friends.

Hopefully during Disabled Golf Week we can showcase how inclusive golf can be and all the benefits it has to offer for both physical and mental well-being.”
